Curly Hair

Hey Guys,

Michaela here, and I am going to share some tips and tricks I’ve picked up over the years to help you manage your curly hair.
If you’re like me and have a head of curls, then you know the daily struggles of brushing, battling frizz and even finding those bobby pins you put in a couple of days ago, its okay we’ve all been there, they’ll turn up eventually.

If your sick of these daily battles, then read on for some quick and easy tips to better manage and regain control your hair;

1 – Skip Daily Shampooing;

Curly hair doesn’t need to be shampooed as frequently as straight hair. Frequent shampooing can stretch and stress out fragile strands and dry out thirsty curls as curly hair is naturally drier. Conditioner is your best friend and we recommend the Joico Curl range which is available in the salon.

2 – Turn down the hot water;

After you shampoo and condition, turn the water temperature down (but not too cold). I know this isn’t a nice experience but it will snap those cuticles shut which will lock in moisture and make you hair shinier and less frizzy.

3 – Pick the right towel;

Leave those scratchy rough towels for drying the dishes and opt for a cotton towel/t-shirt to blot excess moisture. Wrap your hair in your cotton tee and leave for 30 minutes or overnight and wake up to frizz free curls!

4 – Sleep on satin;

Get a satin pillowcase or wrap your hair in a satin scarf to keep your curls sleek and intact. Rough cotton pillowcases can cause your curls to tangle and frizz!

5 – Detangle When Wet;

Always detangle your curls when your hair is wet. Use a wide tooth comb and be gentle. Section your hair and comb very gently. If you brush you will break up your hair strands and create a frizzy mess or worse, create split ends!

Hope this helps all our curly haired clients!
